This can be done from Dashboard, Appearance -> Menus http://i.imm.io/eHSo.png. Create a menu on the top right, save it. From left side, assign that menu as Main Menu in the dropdown list. From the lower widgets, you can select and insert in your menu posts, pages, categories, etc. You can also rearrange them in the menu area, make submenus (just drag, move around and drop).
